Pinnacle

The Pinnacle project (“Pinnacle” or “the Project”) is a 44 MW thermal project located between the Keephills 1&2 and Keephills 3 units, on lands included within the Keephills Power Plant site in Parkland County. The Project is comprised of 4 compression-ignition Wartsila engines with a rated capacity of 11 megawatts each. Once the Project is operational, it is expected to generate approximately 60,000 megawatt hours of electricity in the first year.

TransAlta Corporation (TransAlta) through its wholly owned subsidiary TransAlta Generation Partnership plans to build, own and operate the Project. Current target commercial operation date for the Project is Q4 2025. As part of our ongoing development efforts, TransAlta continues collecting air emissions and noise data; and advancing the project through the AESO interconnection queue. As per AUC Rule 007; air emissions modelling and noise studies are being completed and public consultation sessions will be held in August 2023. An approval application will be filed with AUC in late August.

TransAlta is working with the Transmission Facility Owner, AltaLink, and the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) to connect the Project to the grid through the existing 138kV 401L line to the AltaLink substation located at Keephills.
