The annual President’s Awards ceremony celebrates a year of achievements, dedication and contributions within our organization. These awards are a testament to the pursuit of excellence that defines our company culture. 

Michelle Cameron

Culture Leadership

This award recognizes an individual employee or team who have demonstrated cultural leadership exemplifying TransAlta’s commitment to the Culture Charter and its related principles by role modelling a learning, purpose and results culture and creating a healthy workplace culture, where their colleagues are welcomed and included.

Environmental Leadership

Maureen Tang

This award recognizes a site, project (all fuel types and projects eligible), team or individual that has planned and executed a positive environmental initiative this year. This can include chemical reduction or substitution, heat rate improvement, waste reduction, energy conservation, habitat enhancements, and more. In memory of Matt Holder.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Grant Berg

This award recognizes a leader, employee, or team who have demonstrated TransAlta’s values as well as exemplifying TransAlta’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) Pledge by promoting and creating an environment where their colleagues feel they belong and are accepted.

Innovation

Gavin MacPhee for the Windrise Bat Deterrent

This award recognizes an employee-initiated project that solved a problem or improved the way we run our business. This project must have been completed within the past year.

Leadership Excellence

Jason Villadsen

This award recognizes a people leader who consistently demonstrates TransAlta’s values in their decision making and actions, has a bias to action that achieves key business outcomes and is recognized by their team as a trusted advisor and mentor.

Project of The Year

Calgary Office Move team

This award recognizes a high performing project team fully aligned and focused on achieving the project or initiative objectives. This project must have been completed in the past year.

Safety Leadership

Blake Krassilowsky

This award recognizes employees who demonstrate safety leadership through a visible commitment to improving safety at TransAlta; consistently demonstrate proactive safety behaviours, such as hazard and near-miss reporting; raise awareness around safety at TransAlta; and embody the principles of TransAlta’s total safety program.

Technical Excellence

Antonio Ala Vargas

This award recognizes an individual who consistently demonstrates superior technical expertise, applies this knowledge in the execution of their role and shares their knowledge with others.

Safety Performance

Ontario Wind team

This award recognizes the facility that has the best overall safety performance. Sites are ranked by points for initial analysis of quantifiable measures, including best Total Recorded Injury Frequency (TRIF), most improved safety performance year-over-year, planned inspections, FLHA Audits, and compliance for emergency response drills for the past 12 months.

Outstanding Partnership

Centralia’s Partnership with First Mode to Decarbonize Mine Trucks

This award recognizes an individual, team or project that developed or enhanced an outstanding internal or external partnership, collaboration, or relationship, that improved TransAlta’s operations, performance, or business within the past year.

Best Facility

North Saskatchewan River, Small Hydro and Fort Saskatchewan teams

This award recognizes a TransAlta facility that delivers outstanding results including business efficiency, environmental, health and safety measures, total satisfaction (including employee and community), and a Standout Factor based on a 100% weighting.
