Taylor
The Taylor hydroelectric facility is located near Magrath, Alberta, adjacent to the Taylor Coulee Chute, about 40 kilometres south of Lethbridge.
The facility diverts a portion of the flow from its irrigation canal to its turbine to produce 13 megawatts of electric power, operating during the six-month irrigation season each year from April to October. It utilizes horizontal Kaplan turbines and a GE generator.
Taylor generates an average of 45,000 megawatt-hours annually.
Taylor is a merchant plant and sells its power directly to the Power Pool of Alberta.
TransAlta owns and operates the Taylor facility through its wholly owned subsidiary Canadian Hydro Developers.
