The Joffre natural-gas-fired cogeneration facility is located near Red Deer, Alberta.

TransAlta owns a 40 per cent interest in the facility, with Capital Power and NOVA Chemicals owning 40 per cent and 20 per cent, respectively. The 474 megawatt Joffre facility has been in operation since 2000 and is partially contracted to NOVA Chemicals.

The remaining uncontracted electricity capacity is sold in the Alberta energy market.
