Where we operate:
What we operate:
Natural Gas
Natural gas is a clean, reliable, efficient source of energy. TransAlta has six gas fired plants in Canada and three in Australia. The majority of our natural gas fired plants in Canada are cogeneration facilities.
Cogeneration
Natural gas fired cogeneration facilities are the most efficient means of generating electricity. They allow us to take one fuel source and double the amount of power and thermal energy we can produce. We use the heat otherwise discarded from conventional power generation to produce additional electrical and thermal energy. With cogeneration, we are increasing fuel efficiency, reducing energy costs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Customers
The power and steam from these gas fired cogeneration plants is provided to customers that range from petrochemical and automotive manufacturers to hospitals to local electricity utilities. These customers choose TransAlta because we provide competitive pricing, flexible solutions — and most of all — we are reliable. |
“We want to provide custom solutions like behind the fence energy, allowing us to reduce electricity transmission costs for customers, giving them a reliable and affordable choice for their power and steam needs.” – Gary Woods, managing director, Gas & Renewables | |
Service interruptions can impact our customers business, and we have a proven track record in making sure our energy is consistently available. |
Competitive Advantage
We have been doing this for a long time and have achieved top performance in areas like safety, reliability, plant efficiency and cost competitiveness. We’ve developed our strengths and we continue to drive improvements in our processes and equipment while reducing our costs — savings we can pass on to our customers.
