Media Statement – TransAlta will challenge hypothetical speculation on MSA filings

Mar 27, 2014

Thursday, March 27, 2014 (CALGARY, AB) — TransAlta will challenge unfounded, hypothetical speculation resulting from the Market Surveillance Administrator’s (MSA) March 21, 2014 filings with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC).
MSA documents posted March 21 have led media and members of the general public to make assumptions and conclusions about the dispute.  In particular, the documents have resulted in misleading and factually inaccurate speculation on the magnitude and potential outcome of the issues to be reviewed by the AUC.
Detailed information outlining TransAlta’s position on the dispute can be found at TransAlta’s website at transalta.com/thefacts.
TransAlta has previously requested an AUC hearing into the actions of the MSA. TransAlta’s initial complaint to the AUC and request for a hearing on February 21, 2014 was filed, in part, in response to the MSA’s failure to act responsibly and fairly in relation to TransAlta.
A copy of TransAlta’s complaint is also provided under Related Documents.
TransAlta will use the appropriate forum – the hearing before the Alberta Utilities Commission – to protect the interests of our company and our investors, and take reasonable and necessary steps to correct inaccurate information in order to ensure a transparent review of the facts.
