Board Announcement – TransAlta appoints new board member
Donna Soble Kaufman, Chair, TransAlta Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Martha C. Piper to the TransAlta Board of Directors. Dr. Piper was the President and Vice-Chancellor of The University of British Columbia for nine years. Prior to this she was Vice-President Research and External Affairs at The University of Alberta. Throughout her career she has been involved in a number of boards, including the Board of the Advisory Council on Science and Technology, the B.C. Progress Board, Campaign Chair of the United Way of the Lower Mainland and the National University of Singapore Council.
She is an officer of the Order of Canada, a recipient of the Order of British Columbia, was named Educator of the Year by the Learning Partnership in 2004 and was recently appointed a member of the Trilateral Commission. Dr. Piper currently serves on the board of the Bank of Montreal.
