Contrary to the snow on the ground, it’s the first day of spring! Power price settled $32.76/MWh, a 4% increase week over week as there is decreased thermal availability due to maintenance. Forward prices remain steady for the balance of 2018, but 2019 and 2020 are up an average $0.50/MWh in anticipation of more details being released on the capacity market.
AECO settled $1.92/GJ, a 2% decrease week over week. Prices continue to soften as predicted in the forwards as warmer temperatures prevail. An estimated 230 MMcf/d is expected to come into service in April on the Nova system, increasing the transport capacity between BC and Alberta, relieving some constraint.
The Alberta government is continuing to release funding for energy efficiency projects – this time for municipalities. Community generation, efficiency upgrades and solar are all projects that will be included.
